MAESTRAPEACE
She stands five stories tall, vibrantly illuminating the walls of the San Francisco Women’s Building. Her name is Maestrapeace. This mural is a jewel of the Mission District, a historic treasure on a National Heritage Building, and a magnet for thousands of visitors from all over the world every year. It is referred to in texts for women’s, ethnic, and cultural studies and loved by the surrounding community.
The MAESTRAPEACE Mural was created in several stages:
• Two exterior facades, 1993-1994
• Repair and Restoration from Grafitti, Corner and Additions to 18th Street Facade, 2000
• Addition to 18th Street Entrance and Interior Lobby and Stairwell, 2010
• Complete Restoration of Mural, 2012
